THE “INTERNATIONA REGATTA CLUB”
INNAUGURATES ITS HEADQUARTERS
IN CULEBRA, PUERTO RICO
January 23rd 2007
Culebra, PR – Ángel Ayala, president of the International Regatta Club, announced the recent inauguration of its new headquarters in the island of Culebra overlooking “Las Pelas” bay. The Club was founded upon the creation of the Culebra Heineken International Regatta (CHIR) and the Culebra International Dinghy Regatta (CIDR) in order to have an organizing entity to celebrate sailing events in the island. The third edition of both regattas will be held this coming 9, 10 & 11th of March. “Each goal we reach fills us with great joy and we are all extremely proud to watch our Club and the Regatta as they rise to the highest international levels.” stated Ayala, the regatta’s director.
The founders of the International Regatta Club traveled to Culebra for the event. All of them are sailors that have dedicated their lives to the sport and its perpetuation in the island. “To have the blessing and the active participation of such an icon of the sailing history of Puerto Rico as Bob Fisher is an honor.” commented Ayala.
The event preceded the first meeting of the club’s Board of Directors in which they started to outline the club’s vision, mission and future plans. Besides being a member of the Puerto Rico Sailing Federation, the International Regatta Club is the first official sailing club to set headquarters in the island of Culebra (municipality of Puerto Rico). “Our vision is quite ambitious and includes raising the International Regatta Club to the highest international standing with world recognition and international projects following the path established by the CHIR and the CIDR. Both events have doubled inscriptions in the first two years and managed to catch and hold the interest of international press.” commented Jose Casanova, one of the regatta organizers and member of the club’s board. The club house will be available as headquarters for the club as well as a providing a wonderful space to receive international visitors.

The Caribbean Sailing Association
Visits Puerto Rico to Certify Local Competitors
January 22nd 2007
Fajardo- The International Regatta Club has invited the Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA) to visit Puerto Rico in order to certify the handicap rating of all boats racing at the regatta. The CSA operates the CSA Handicapping Rule in the Caribbean and is an Associate member of the world body of sailing, the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). The Sailing Federation of Puerto Rico ("Federación de Vela de Puerto Rico" or "FVPR") governs the sport of sailing in Puerto Rico as the Full Member of ISAF and its MNA (Member National Authority). Mr. Anthony Sanpere is the chief measurer in charge of this visit and he will be supported locally by Jorge Rivera who is being trained to be certified and become the International Regatta Club’s official measurer in the island. “It will be an extraordinary advantage for our Club to have its own chief measurer and one of the first steps in acquiring international status” stated Ángel Ayala, President of the Club and the Culebra Heineken International Regatta’s director. “The Culebra Heineken International Regatta will be holding its third edition on the 9, 10 & 11th of March but there are two other previous regattas in the Caribbean (St. Croix and St. Martin), so we decided to bring the CSA early enough to enable all participants to be ready to sail the entire season.” added Ayala.
The measuring and certifications will be held at Marina Puerto del Rey in Fajardo on the following dates and all sailors interested in obtaining or renovating their certificates are welcome:
2nd of February (Friday) 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
